Radiology has developed into a specialty which encompasses multiple means of making and interpreting diagnostic images. VSSF is proud to offer a wide variety of these services. Standard X-rays are still the backbone of diagnosis. We have excellent equipment and the radiologist provides the skill and expertise in interpretation to reach many diagnoses. Fluoroscopy allows the radiologist to see an x-ray picture in "real time". This allows for evaluation of organs in motion and gives the ability to pass catheters through blood vessels to perform various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Diagnostic ultrasound (using equipment identical to that used for humans) allows the radiologist to see inside of organs and to assess finer structures than those identified by X-ray. Our VET MR non-invasively produces multi-planar pictures that can define the location, distribution, mass effect, or other characteristics of soft tissues in the body. Computed tomography (CAT scans) are a very advanced use of x-rays in which a computer makes a cross sectional image. This modality is very important in neurologic conditions and in identifying many tumors.
